WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic involves the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neuromusculoskeletal disorders such as neck pain, back pain, sciatica, nerve pain, and other joint pains. Chiropractic is a drug free, non-invasive natural form of health care. It focuses on optimising the function of the spine and nervous system while encouraging the body back to health through correct diet, exercise and lifestyle choices. Whilst there is an assumption that Chiropractors only treat the spine, many Chiropractors regularly treat musculoskeletal conditions outside of the spine.

Chiropractors are spinal health specialists, viewing the spine as an integral part of someone’s body. The Spine itself houses the nervous system, the master control system of the body. It is also the attachment point of a huge number of the body’s muscles. It gives us our posture and allows movement of our trunk and limbs. Making sure this structure is working and functioning at is best enables us to remain pain free and able to engage in everyday living.

In Australia, Chiropractors undergo at least 5 years university training and are nationally registered health professionals.

Our Chiropractors provide hands on care in the form Chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapies, dry needling and tailored rehabilitation programs to assist with your current complaint or in the prevention of spinal dysfunction.

Pregnancy Care

Throughout pregnancy, numerous hormonal and physical transformations occur. These changes are likely to have diverse effects on your neuromusculoskeletal system. Consequently, alterations in posture and discomfort in the spine and extremities may arise. As the foetus develops in the womb, natural shifts in posture occur, causing a change in the centre of gravity. Many individuals seek chiropractic care during pregnancy to address the increased lumbar curve resulting from foetal growth, pelvic changes in preparation for labour, and adaptations in posture and gait.

While chiropractors focus on enhancing pelvic mobility and function for pregnant patients, a common objective is to provide regular chiropractic treatment to improve labour and delivery outcomes. These desired outcomes may include reduced labour duration and a diminished need for forceps or vacuum tools. Consistent chiropractic care during pregnancy can yield advantages such as promoting a healthier and more comfortable pregnancy, alleviating pain in the back, neck, hips, and joints,

Is Chiropractic Safe During Pregnancy?

Chiropractic adjustments are administered globally every day, with complications being rare. This trend remains consistent during pregnancy, where complications from chiropractic care are also rare. Chiropractors undergo specific training to cater to pregnant patients, and Dr Jess, in particular, has pursued additional education in this domain to enhance her ability to assist pregnant individuals. When performing adjustments on pregnant patients, chiropractors employ techniques that avoid exerting pressure on the abdomen. In our clinic, specialised pillows are available, enabling pregnant individuals to lie comfortably on their stomach during the treatment

What is Paediatric Chiropractic?

Paediatric chiropractic focuses on the assessment and care of infants, children, and adolescents as they grow and develop. Chiropractors use gentle, age-appropriate techniques tailored to a child’s size, stage of development, and individual needs.

At Dunsborough Family Chiro & Physio, our chiropractors assess movement, posture, spinal function, and musculoskeletal health to support children’s physical wellbeing. Care may include gentle manual therapy, movement advice, posture education, and exercises designed to support healthy development and everyday function.Parents may seek chiropractic care for children experiencing musculoskeletal discomfort, posture concerns, sports-related strain, or movement difficulties. Every child receives an individual assessment to determine whether chiropractic care may be appropriate.

Our practitioners work within current Australian healthcare regulations and provide evidence-informed care. If needed, we may recommend collaboration with or referral to other healthcare professionals to ensure your child receives the most appropriate support.
